Overview
The 1st4sport Level 3 Award in Foaling Practices is ideal for learners who already have experience of working with horses and aim to develop specific skills related to the assistance of foaling mares and the care of the mare and foal prior to, and post, foaling. The qualification prepares learners for employment and supports current stud staff to develop skills in the assistance with foaling, which is relevant to Stud Hand and Foal Watch roles.
Prepares learners to assist with the care mare prior to, and during foaling. It also involves the care of the mare and foal post parturition. The learner will be expected to select and utilise appropriate equipment pre and post foaling, prepare relevant facilities, identify imminent signs and foaling and obtain professional help and advice as required
Qualification Progression
Learners could progress onto additional CPD opportunities offered through industry specific organisations or onto the 1st4sport Level 3 Certificate In Thoroughbred Stud Practice.
Achievement of the qualification will enable learners to progress into a range of roles including Stud Hand and Foaling Assistant.
