  • In today's society issues such as child-hood obesity and the concern for national well being are emphasising the importance of regular sport and exercise among young performers. Indeed, everybody, whether a sport coach, teacher, parent or player has a responsibility in ensuring the long-term athlete development of young athletes.

This title is based on the Long-term Athlete development (LTAD) model, developed by Dr Istvan Balyi, focuses on maximising player development to encourage a life long commitment to sports and exercise. It is designed to help prepare players to reach elite development while focusing on the importance of having fun in sport. LTAD provides the athlete with activities to suit each development stage and lays foundations for the future.

This book will take you through all the practical applications of the LTAD model, help you identify and develop talented athletes and integrate this new approach into your coaching practice.

  • "Whatever our role in supporting and delivering sport, our central focus should always be on the needs of the athlete. Adopting a long-term, staged and individual approach to their development will ensure that they excel throughout their life as an aspiring performer and/or as a confident and competent recreational player. I have been fortunate to work closely with sports coach UK, Sport England and other UK sports agencies, and help to produce these resources which provide information to help all of us play our role in developing sport and enable sportspeople to be the best they can be."
