About the Author:

Andrea Hayley - MA, BA (Hons), PGCE, Adv Dip

Andrea is the Director of Dance in Education Services and has 20 years' teaching experience.

Andrea trained at the Laban Centre (London) graduating with a First Class BA (Hons) Degree in Dance Theatre and a Performance Diploma. She obtained a Post Graduate Certificate in Secondary Education (Drama/English) from Bretton Hall, University of Leeds and holds an MA in Professional Education from Leeds Metropolitan University.

She also holds Advanced Diplomas in Mentoring and Raising Achievement in Schools and is a qualified Internal Assessor and External Moderator.

Andrea is an Examiner for the AQA GCSE Dance Board and a moderator for the Open College Network. She is a TOPs Dance Trainer (including TOPs 2) and a qualified CPD tutor, as well as being one of only a handful of education professionals in Britain who teaches and trains pupils and teachers from Nursery/Foundation Stage to Masters Degree Level. Andrea has taught in some of the core educational establishments in the United Kingdom.

In 1997 she founded Dance In Education Services, a company formed to conceptualise, write, publish and distribute educational Dance resources to the compulsory and non-compulsory education sectors. In 1998 she was commissioned by several education authorities to write dance policies and to create accessible training materials. She has successfully assisted schools and colleges to formulate bids and applications for establishments aspiring towards Sports/Arts College status.

This level of success led to the formation of a publishing company, which produces an array of dance resources including the international best seller 'Dance G.C.S.Easy', a set text for GCSE Dance. Andrea has written numerous publications for an array of professional Dance companies, including Phoenix Dance and Northern Ballet Theatre.

Andrea runs numerous courses across the country, lectures at several universities, and has produced numerous dance publications for local education authorities, examination boards and professional dance companies. In 2000 Andrea was invited to Evaluate Phoenix Dance Company's Youth Academy to establish standardisation procedures and monitor the quality of delivery at the Academy.

In 1997 Andrea was presented to HRH Elizabeth II for her choreographic contribution to the Bradford Centenary Celebrations in which she directed and choreographed a large-scale, outdoor, multi-cultural stadium event involving hundreds of children.

Paul Flynn - BA, Cert. Ed., Adv Dip

Paul trained at the Laban Centre for Movement and Dance and gained an Advanced Diploma in Dance Theatre Performance. He obtained his Batchelor of Arts from Bretton Hall (University of Leeds) and a Certificate in Education from Sunderland University.

Paul is a C&G qualified Assessor and Internal Verifier and had been a Becta-training ILT Champion since 2000 at Stockton Riverside College, UK.

After a 10 year professional, international performing career, Paul embraced the world of information technology, which led to a career departure.

Currently Paul is the ILT Services Development Manager at Stockton Riverside College and his team recently won the TechDis/ALT 2005 Innovative Practice with e-Learing for their Widening Access Through New Technologies project; a project to bring e-Learning opportunities closer to dyslexic learners using mobile technologies. Paul is also a Higher Education lecturer in e-Learning.

Paul also works with Stockton Riverside College's Centre of Vocational Excellence in Performing Arts as a Guest Lecturer in Labanotation, Choreology and Employability.

Paul in an experienced teacher of Dance and Drama at KS1, KS2, KS3, KS4/GCSE/A Level, FE and HE.

In 1992, he co-Founded SLAP Physical Theatre and pioneered the site-specific and confrontational theatre work now prevalent in night clubs from Prague to Ibiza. With SLAP he created working in alternative environments such as the inflatable light structure, Eggoplois, Greek Orthodox Churches, aircraft hangars, the Eurostar and the Gar du Nord, Paris as well as other large-scale, outdoor performance venues.

Paul's dance performance career has spanned many years and he has worked with the country's most innovative, leading choreographers and companies.

Paul has designed all of Dance in Education Services paper and multimedia resources (including this portal) since 1998. ADEPT is Paul's chance to bring both of his careers together to benefit pupils, students and teachers through an accessible, blended learning experience.
