Overview:
This full-colour book explains the building blocks required for paddlers to progress through the sport.
From the day they first get in a boat over a span of many years, it provides information on what they should be doing at various stages of their development and follows the progressional development of technique, fitness, psychological skills and tactics.
Based on Istvan Balyi's Long-term Athlete Development (LTAD) model, this resource outlines the athlete development strategy that utilises the principles of human growth and development, while maximising the opportunities this offers the paddler.
‘The BCU Long-term Paddler Development Pathway’ is relevant to any sports coach, multi-skills coach, coaching science/sport development students and Governing body LTAD development officers as well as paddlers and paddlesport deliverers across the various canoeing disciplines. |
| Reviews:
“I have enjoyed working closely with the British Canoe Union and Sport England to help produce the BCU Long Term Paddler Development Pathway as a blueprint for the future. Adopting a long-term, staged and individual approach to the all round development of canoeists will ensure that they excel throughout their life as aspiring performers and / or as confident, competent recreational paddlers. This document is the first step in providing information to help all of us play our role in developing paddlesport and enabling canoeists to be the best they can be” Dr. Istvan Balyi
