  • learn the basic principles of strength and conditioning theory
  • use theory in practical applications
  • find out why different training programmes can produce different results

Coaches are constantly challenged to devise new methods of improving performance in their athletes. One important method of raising performance at all levels of sport is by increasing the fitness of the athletes involved. On a very basic level, fitness deals with specific strength, speed, power and endurance capabilities.

In recent years, recognition of the importance of fitness parameters has led to an explosion in various strength and conditioning resources and methods.

This book lays out the basic principles underlying strength and conditioning theory as well as detailed information on how to use the theory in practical applications. Furthermore, there are excellent explanations as to why different training programmes can produce different results.

  • Explains how and why these latest training methods work
  • Supported by evidence to explain why these methods work
  • Accompanied by specific guidelines allowing coaches to implement drills and principles

  • Reviews:

There is lots of great information in this book that is ideally presented for communicating principles and methods to coaches and I regularly quote from it. The book is an asset to any sport-specific or strength and conditioning coach'
