Ally Brennan, Assistant Director of Sport, Comberton Village College, Cambridgeshire About the Author: Each of the three authors has experience that spans over 30 years of professional contribution to learning, teaching, coaching and development of gymnastics across education and community provision. After training at Loughborough, Barry Benn (MA) taught in the secondary, primary and adult education sectors before becoming the Gymnastics Development Officer for the City of Birmingham. After a successful competitive career Barry coached gymnasts, both men and women, to international level, receiving Honorary National Coach status in 1975 and the Long Service Award of the Association of British Gymnastic Coaches in 1991. Barry also served as an international judge of Men's Artistic Gymnastics for over 25 years and was a member of several national technical committees for British Gymnastics and the British Schools' Gymnastics Association. He has authored many texts related to teaching gymnastics and, recently, on sociological analysis of the sport of gymnastics. Barry is currently lecturing in physical education and sport in the School of Education at the University of Birmingham. Dr Tansin Benn is currently Associate Professor in the School of Education at the University of Birmingham. Starting her career as a Physical Education teacher, Tansin moved into teacher training at both primary and secondary levels and, later, into wider university contributions, including management and research. She worked voluntarily in the sport of Women's Artistic Gymnastics, as a coach and international judge, as well as serving on regional and national technical committees to assist the development, organisation and management of the sport. Tansin has authored books and journal articles on theory and practice related to the field, most recently, in sociological analysis of developments in the sport of gymnastics. Patricia Maude was awarded an MBE for services to physical education in 2001. Formerly a full-time principal lecturer in teacher education at Homerton College, University of Cambridge, she is now a part-time tutor and physical education consultant. Patricia has completed extensive research into movement development for young children and has contributed regionally and nationally as advisor, author, coach, judge and tutor for British Gymnastics. Her major contribution has been in general gymnastics and teacher/tutor training. Patricia's leading-edge contributions to interactive resource materials for teachers have included Observing Children Moving (2003) and Observing and Analysing Learners' Movement (2006).
