Overview:

This resource is designed to give an insight into some of the demands of managing people and situations as an official, regardless of level, but to also help officials prepare to be the best they can be in this competitive, stressful and exciting domain of sport.

The concept of managing people and situations is about the real management issues that affect all officials who have direct contact with performers in their sports. It covers the professional preparation of officials, including controlling the environment and spectators, managing conflict and injury, communication strategies, being aware of how decision-making processes will be adversely affected by the game and developing strategies to deal with the many and varied pressures of being an official.

  • Sports Officials UK (SOUK)

SOUK was formed by a group of like-minded people with the responsibility for the development of officials within their chosen sports. There was, and remains, a clear need for sport to invest more heavily in the development of officials. Officials are integral to sport and the best officiating contributes to the success, enjoyment and recruitment of players in sport. Through the support of a small technical group within SOUK, Skills Active, sports coach UK and Coachwise, we are now able to publish our first generic officiating products.
