The Author
Dr David Pegg has experience as an international badminton umpire and has officiated at many World, European, All-England and National Championships. He is also an international referee, organising events both in England and overseas.

Stuart Cummings achieved senior referee status in 1991 and was appointed as the Match Officials Director at The Rugby Football League in 2002. During his refereeing career, he refereed six test matches, two World Cup finals, four Challenge Cup finals and two Grand finals.
Former national-level men’s gymnastics judge in Australia, Russell D’Costa has also worked as a Coaching and Officiating Consultant with the Australian Sports Commission. He currently works as an Education and Training Manager at sports coach UK.
As a referee, Janie Frampton has reached the National List of Contributory League and Women’s National Premier League football. She is a qualified UEFA ‘B’ Coach, FA Licensed Referee Instructor, FA Generic Tutor Trainer, Tutor Mentor for Child Protection and an FA Regional Referee Manager.

SOUK was formed by a group of like-minded people with the responsibility for the development of officials within their chosen sports. There was, and remains, a clear need for sport to invest more heavily in the development of officials. Officials are integral to sport and the best officiating contributes to the success, enjoyment and recruitment of players in sport.
