Overview:

This exciting new text is the first book to place coaching in an academic context. It is the only text available for FE and HE students who are taking an introductory look at sports coaching and can be used as a resource to support modules in coaching, as well as being a handy-sized general reference book on coaching that is accessible to non-academic readers too.

This new title aims to help those people wishing to begin their journey into sports coaching to gain a better understanding and appreciation of what is involved. It is aimed at all those who wish to learn more about the coaching process. It explores the different roles, responsibilities, skills and knowledge a modern coach requires to effectively plan and deliver a safe and positive sporting experience. Throughout the book, there are opportunities to reflect on learning through a series of tasks.

  • ‘Summary’ boxes at the end of chapters remind you of key points
  • Regular ‘Tasks’ help to consolidate your learning and allow you to test yourself
  • Sample coaching evaluation and monitoring checklist to ensure you’ve covered everything
